La Cresta Geotechnical, Inc. is a geotechnical engineering firm. We strive to provide our clients
with excellent personalized service, in a timely cost effective manner. We work closely with
our clients to solve geotechnical engineering related challenges, from the single-family project to
the larger and more technically complex project. Mark Sweeney, owner and chief geologist, has
well over 26 years experience working in the geotechnical engineering field. We look forward to

Mark Sweeney is a 1985 graduate of Humboldt State University, in Arcata, California, where he recieved
his degree in Geology with an emphasis in Engineering. Famous now for its extensive programs and
achievements in the geotechnical field, Humboldt State has a reputation for graduating students
with integrity and professionalism in geological sciences.
La Cresta Geotech is proud to be a member in good standing with the San Diego Association of
Geologists. La Cresta Geotech is also a member in good standing with both the Inland Geological
Society and the American Society of Civil Engineers, Geotechnical Engineering Division.
Professional responsibilities of La Cresta Geotech include:
- Conducting geotechnical evaluations, including logging and sampling of exploratory excavations.
- Civil inspection of grading and construction project activities.
- Installation and subsequent monitoring of geophysical and hydrological instrumentation.
- Coordination of the activities of field and laboratory technicians.
- Perform phase I and phase II geologic and property damage evaluations of distressed structures.
- Perform geologic mapping and research.
- Perform percolation testing and design septic systems, including alternative treatment systems.
EXPERIENCE
- Mark Sweeney has over 26 years of experience providing geotechnical services, including
investigations and soil testing services during large hillside grading, streets and improvement
projects to small single-family projects. Select projects Mark Sweeney has worked on include 1) Aviara,
Carlsbad, California, 2) Eastlake Greens and The Woods, Chula Vista, California, and 3) Black Mountain
Reservoir Project, San Diego, California.

- Provide Civil Inspection for over four years during construction of the Diamond Valley Reservoir,
Hemet, California. Provided inspection during the embankment placement. Provided inspection of
instrumentation installation and subsequent monitoring and interpretation of data. Oversight and
inspection of drilling activities, including geologic logging of rock cores, construction of plastic
concrete cut-off wall and blasting act ivies.
- Performance and oversight of Caltrans test methods during soil, concrete and asphalt placement
for the SR-91 Toll Road project in Orange County, California.
- Geotechnical services performed during grading of the San Joaquin Hills Toll Corridor (SR-73)
project, Orange County, California, including observation and testing during grading, cut and fill
slope mapping and stability analysis, landslide analysis and remediation.
- Performed phase I and phase II geologic and property damage evaluations of numerous structures
in Los Angeles County, California, after the Northridge earthquake of 1994.
- Performed percolation test studies and septic designs for numerous singe-family and large
scale subdivisions as well as commercial projects in San Diego and Riverside Counties, California.
